Information: Crisis intervention counseling to reduce
stress. Referrals to other appropriate resources if needed.
Services offered: Adult Residential
Services: short-term therapeutic setting for individuals
experiencing a mental health crisis. Individuals are
referred by local mental health, local and state hospitals,
psychiatrists and private agencies that address mental
health issues. Medication monitoring, counseling and
medical assistance are interventions provided to help
stabilize consumer behavior. Referrals are made to
community agencies for financial assistance, housing for
those who find themselves homeless and employment to empower
individuals as they transition to community living. The
thrust of the program is to prevent hospitalization through
early intervention. Transitional Living
Shelter: Began in 1998 and was developed to provide and
assist homeless young women between 16 and 21 years of age
in their pursuit to become independent and self-sufficient
citizens within the community. These young women can
maintain residence for up to 18 months while pursuing an
education or job training skills. While residents of the
shelter, these women will be afforded life skills training
through classes provided by staff and community volunteers.
Information and Referral: Links people in need with
local agencies, churches, and organizations that can help
them. We maintain an extensive, up-to-date file of agencies
and programs that provide assistance with housing, medical
services, financial aid, transportation, food and critical
services. A Central Aid Registry for the churches and
agencies in the community who are part of a networking
system is maintained. An emergency food pantry to meet
immediate needs is provided when other pantries are closed,
and one-time assistance for those needing emergency
medications is offered. When funds are available, we work
through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide
one month’s rent to those who face eviction from their
homes. Sexual Assault Victim’s Care Service: Provides
services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all victims of
sexual assault. These services include telephone crisis
intervention, counseling, groups and advocacy. Our trained
advocates provide crisis intervention at area hospitals,
police departments and court hearings. Our services extend
not only to the victim, but also to his/her family. We
provide group counseling and short or long-term therapy to
adults and children to reduce the trauma of rape, incest or
other offenses such as sexual harassment, voyeurism or
exhibitionism. Community education and professional
training programs are available for interested groups upon
request. Suicide and Crisis Intervention: A
24-hour a day, 7 days a week, telephone crisis service
staffed by professional crisis workers and volunteers who
have completed a 40-hour training program which includes
sessions on suicide, crisis intervention, mental disorders,
sexual assault, teen issues, AIDS, and community referrals.
A telephone device for the deaf is also available by calling
618.397.0992 Suicide & Crisis Counseling is provided in the
Call For Help Office by appointment. The counseling is
short-term and focuses on issues that have placed a person
in crisis and/or precipitated the suicidal thoughts.
Counselors will also help schools, agencies and
organizations with Suicide Assessment when help is requested
and the time is available. Parent/Youth Help Line:
Staff listens and responds to family problems, help relieve
everyday or situational stress and make referrals to
appropriate community services to meet the needs. Survivors
of Suicide Support Group: Group meets on the 3rd
Tuesday of each month at 7p.m., located at the Call For
Help, Inc. office, 9400 Lebanon Road, Edgemont, IL.
Individual counseling is also available. These services are
to help survivors through the grief process of a death due
to suicide 618.397.0963.
Persons served: Primarily residents of St. Clair
County; but no caller is refused, unless services are
inappropriate to the clients needs.
Fees: Sliding scale for counseling but no one will be
refused due to lack of funds. Insurances are accepted.

Information: Cerebral Palsy affects approximately
500,000 people nationwide. Cerebral Palsy is caused by
damage to the part of the brain that controls muscle
coordination/balance. It does not affect their ability to
think or learn.

loans/repairs; adult/youth recreational activities; support
services; community presentations, Camp Pathfinder, Home
Based and Family Assistance Program facilitators; Kids on

Services offered: Day Treatment Program: A
Special Education program for emotionally disturbed,
behaviorally disordered, and learning disabled children and
adolescents. Students, ages 5 to 21, attend the special day
school program 5 ½ hours per day, five days per week. Day
program services are provided free of charge to the
families. Referrals and payments are made by the student’s
home school district. Outpatient Program: Individual
and group counseling for children, adolescents, and their
families, with special emphasis on treatment of sexually
abusive behavior. Any person or agency may refer children
or families for outpatient services. Residential
Program: 40-Bed facility provides round-the-clock
therapeutic, educational and recreational services in a
residential setting for adolescents with sexually abusive
problems.
Fees: No fee for Day Program; Outpatient Program fees
based on ability to pay; Residential Program – contact the
center regarding fees for this program.

Services offered: This program (via video tape
presentation) provides divorcing parents the opportunity to
learn about and discuss the effect that divorce and changing
family situations have no children. The court mandated
program is conducted in one two-hour session on Monday at
4:30 and 7 p.m., Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. and one Saturday a
month at 9 a.m. Both parents must attend during separately
scheduled sessions. An appointment is needed to attend.
The program is provided by the St. Clair County Mental
Health Board.
