Services offered: BEACON of Belleville is an organization of local churches operating as a social outreach clearinghouse.  Link people in need with church volunteers for person to person help.  The process includes verification of need, analysis of the kind and extent of need, referral to appropriate resources and follow-up.  The purpose is not to duplicate or complete with existing services, but to support and enhance the community service network.

Services offered: Emergency food baskets; emergency shelter at Holy Angels Shelter; referrals to proper federal, state or social service agencies, and ministry to the elderly.  Utilities and medicine assistance.

Services offered: Free civil legal services to low-income individuals.  Priorities are housing, public benefits, utilities, domestic violence, special education and rights of disabled.  Office also is site of Title III-funded Senior Citizens Legal Services unit, serving seniors in seven-county area without fee.  Approximately 90 area lawyers participate in office’s Pro Bono Lawyers are made through the Land of Lincoln Office as a part of regular intake procedures.

Services offered: Church services on Sundays.  Rental, utility and water assistance; bus passes.  Day camp in the summer.  Latchkey before and after school care.  Open basketball on Friday 7 p.m. – 10 p.m. ($2.00).  The Salvation Army also runs a 27-bed shelter that is open 24 hours/day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Services offered: Emergency shelter for those who are homeless due to a crisis or a disaster.  Rental and utility assistance is offered when funds are available (Illinois only).  Life skills training and education program provided, tutoring for school-aged children, counseling services to homeless families, a food pantry and referrals to other agencies.

Services offered: Housing Department – prevention of eviction and/or foreclosure; first and last month’s rent and one month mortgage when funding is available.
Basic Placement Department – referral job service. 
Community Organization Department
– emergency service includes food, clothing, and financial assistance for utilities when available by appointment only.
Individual Development Account (IDA) Program – matched savings fund program in which Urban League matches dollar for dollar; use for education, small business, purchase of home or vehicle.
