Services offered:  Information and Referral: Links people in need with local agencies, churches, and organizations that can help them.  We maintain an extensive, up-to-date file of agencies and programs that provide assistance with housing, medical services, financial aid, transportation, food and critical services.  A Central Aid Registry for the churches and agencies in the community who are part of a networking system is maintained.  An emergency food pantry to meet immediate needs is provided when other pantries are closed, and one-time assistance for those needing emergency medications is offered.  When funds are available, we work through the Federal Emergency Management Agency to provide one month’s rent to those who face eviction from their homes.  Sexual Assault Victim’s Care Service: Provides services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to all victims of sexual assault.  These services include telephone crisis intervention, counseling, groups and advocacy.  Our trained advocates provide crisis intervention at area hospitals, police departments and court hearings.  Our services extend not only to the victim, but also to his/her family.  We provide group counseling and short or long-term therapy to adults and children to reduce the trauma of rape, incest or other offenses such as sexual harassment, voyeurism or exhibitionism.  Community education and professional training programs are available for interested groups upon request.  Suicide and Crisis Intervention: A 24-hour a day, 7 days a week, telephone crisis service staffed by professional crisis workers and volunteers who have completed a 40-hour training program which includes sessions on suicide, crisis intervention, mental disorders, sexual assault, teen issues, AIDS, and community referrals.  A telephone device for the deaf is also available by calling 618.397.0992  Suicide & Crisis Counseling is provided in the Call For Help Office by appointment.  The counseling is short-term and focuses on issues that have placed a person in crisis and/or precipitated the suicidal thoughts.  Counselors will also help schools, agencies and organizations with Suicide Assessment when help is requested and the time is available.
